Tripods are my preferred method for holding microphones in the field.
Although they require thread adapters to accept common sound attachments, they’re far superior to mic stands.
Mic stands can become top heavy with their short legs and long central pole and blow over in winds. Additionally, because the feet don’t articulate individually, they can only be set up with confidence on perfectly flat surfaces…not likely to come by in the field.
Tripods can adapt to almost any terrain or grade and are fundamentally more stable with their long legs that span the distance from ground to gear.

It folds down to an extremely compact size and can support up to 8.8lbs of gear.

The Benro Slim is the tripod I use when backpacking great distances.
Its lightweight and compact design make carrying it much easier than an aluminum alternative.

Peak Design Carbon Fiber Tripod
The Peak Design is an ultra lightweight tripod full of features.
It folds down to just 15.5 inches and is about the width of a water bottle.
The legs lay almost flat on the ground while still keeping your gear supported, and cover a range of heights from 5.5-60 inches.
Besides the carbon fiber legs, most of the weight savings is in the innovative head design.
